We are asked now and then what Gatz intends to become. The honest answer is that we intend to stay narrow and get better inside the space we have chosen.
Accessories, and nothing else
Gatz makes accessories. Not coats, not dresses, not a wardrobe with accessories added at the end. A scarf, a fan, a bag strap: small things that finish what you were already wearing. Staying there is not modesty for its own sake. It is the only way we know to learn one thing properly instead of half-learning five.
Collections with a single idea in them
Everything we make begins with a story: an era, a woman, a city worth remembering. What we want to do more of is follow one thread further. A single idea carried across a group of pieces that belong together, in colours chosen in the same room on the same afternoon. Fewer launches, more coherence, collections you could recognise without reading the label.
The things we have not made yet
The list of what we do not make is longer than the list of what we do, and much of it belongs to the cold half of the year. Gloves. Hats, and something for the ears in January. Smaller pieces in silk: a tie, a pocket square, a band for the hair. None of this is announced, and some of it may never happen. But it is the shape of the next few years, and all of it is still an accessory, which is rather the point.
Slowly
We would rather add one category properly than four at speed, and we would rather make the same thing better next year than make something new for the sake of news. That is the whole plan, stated plainly.
A short list, made well, beats a long one made quickly.
